Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, who is also the ODM deputy party leader has been elected the first Chairman of the Summit of the Lake Region Economic Bloc.
Oparanga was unanimously elected on Monday during the launch of Lake Region Economic Bloc in Kakamega.
“Today in Kakamega I have been unanimously elected First Chairman of the Summit of the Lake Region Economic Bloc which groups together 14 counties from the region. I have hosted the Governors from those counties, development partners and some ambassadors,” the Kakamega county boss tweeted, Monday.
The bloc covers 14 Counties of Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, Kisumu, Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Bomet, Siaya, Homabay, Migori, Kericho & TransNzoia. The ODM governor will be deputised by Bomet governor Joyce Laboso who was also elected during the launch where 10 governors attended.
Also present were Deputy Governors, UK High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Halley, UN Delegation, DFID, USAID, SAFARICOM, BOA and UBA.
In a tweet on Monday, Nic Halley said UK was proud to have supported preparatory work and the important new initiative for development & prosperity in Lake Region.
