In an interview on Radio Citizen on Friday, the county chief who doubles up as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader revealed that he has since kicked off plans for the realisation of the dream, including lobbying within the party.

Oparanya said he has gone ahead to consult his party leader and opposition chief Raila Odinga, noting that everything is set for his bid.

''My 2022 presidential candidature remains in place and is no longer a secret or guess. I have so far consulted my fellow leaders in the ODM party, including my leader Raila Odinga and will soon be reaching out to other leaders to appeal for support,'' he said.

Oparanya expressed confidence in taking over from President Uhuru Kenyatta, banking on his long-time political experience and achievements during his two-term tenure as a county boss.

''I have achieved a lot as the Governor of Kakamega and want to use the same ideas to better the nation. I also believe I have enough experience and ability to lead in that capacity basing on my vast experience, having held parliamentary, ministerial and gubernatorial posts,'' he added.

Oparanya is likely to battle it out with among others, Deputy President William Ruto who will be vying on the ruling Jubilee Party ticket.
