The sustained calls for dialogue by Raila Odinga have received a major boost after the National Council of Churches (NCCK) called for dialogue as a means for resolving the political impasse.

Reverend Canon Peter Karanja said that the country was greater than the main protagonists President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.

''The presidential elections held in 2017 left the country deeply divided. This has led to two centres of power. The country is greater than President Uhuru Kenyatta and honourable Raila Odinga. This country belongs to the 48 million or so Kenyans. Therefore, there's need for a common understanding,'' Canon Peter Karanja.

This comes in the wake of a worsening political crisis after the disputed 2017 presidential elections.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have ruled out the possibility of talks on political matters, a stance that the church warned could drive the country to the brink of civil strife.
