The recent push by politicians from the Coast for the region to form its own political party ahead of the 2022 general election may prove to be a major political blow to NASA leader Raila Odinga.
The former Prime Minister has enjoyed massive following from the region since 2005.
He has literally locked out all his opponents from infiltrating the region and has been voted for overwhelmingly over the past three presidential contests.
This popularity may soon come t an end after Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, Raila's political protégé, started callsfor the coast region to have its own party.
A section of leaders have embraced the idea but another group led by Governor Hassan Joho have opposed the idea.
So what happens to Raila should the two leaders reach an agreement to form their own party?
Politically speaking, Raila would have been dealt a major blow, his support bases would have been cut significantly.
In sum, Odinga cannot afford to lose the coastal region as it remains an important presidential winning machine.
This means that the former Premier may be forced to hold a crisis meeting with the Coast political leadership for them to reconsider their own party push.
