With Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti fighting fresh corruption allegations in his county, NASA leader Raila Odinga may find it hard to convince the electorate to vote for the embattled Governor in case of a by-election.
According to a post on her Facebook page, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo said that the county's Executive Committee Member Carilus Ademba had raised an alarm saying that nothing meaningful was going on in the county due to a cartel of four.
The vocal MP who is one of the most senior politicians in the county said that during campaigns, the Governor had promised to take an action to combat corruption, something she says has never been done.
In yet another post, the MP said that her Homa Bay Town counterpart Peter Opondo Kaluma had claimed that there is rot both within the executive and the county assembly and that corruption evidence had been forwarded to EACC for action.
With this yet another corruption allegation haunting Awiti who has been on the spot before, what next in case of by-election? His fate is currently at the hands of three Appelate Judges who will give a ruling on his appeal in mid July.
What if the High Court ruling nullifying his election is upheld? Will Raila save him from Joseph Oyugi Magwangwa who is a favorite to triumph in case of fresh election? Time will tell.
Here are the post from MP Millie Odhiambo:
First post
A County Executive Committee Member ( Minister) of Homabay County, Hon Carilus Ademba yesterday raised an alarm that nothing meaningful is going on in Homabay County due a cartel of four that he has not named. This cry was prevalent during campaigns and the Governor promised to take action to correct any wrongs that may have occurred in his first term. This cry from his own Executive is alarming. The Governor needs to address this issue urgently. I am urging the Governor to call a meeting of the County political leadership to deal with this issue.
Second Post
Yesterday I commented on an issue raised by a Hombay County CEC Hon Carilus Ademba about the alleged fleecing of funds of Homabay County by an unnamed cartel of four. In response, Hon Opondo Kaluma, MP Homabay Town has indicated there is rot both by the Executive and Legislative arm of the County. He states there is evidence of corruption forwarded to the Anti Corruption Agency who has failed and or refused to act. I am going to follow up this matter with Hon Kaluma and Anti Corruption agency if indeed there is evidence of corruption and clearly get to know why EACC is not acting. If there is proof of negligence on EACC then we will take further legal action. Meanwhile the Senate whose mandate is oversight of Counties needs to step in. Reading from on line comments, I can also tell there is politicking. Challenge is separating wheat from political chaff. Either way, we need to sort out concerns so that service is delivered. Devolution is our baby. Devolution must work.
