The battle for the Kisumu county gubernatorial seat in 2017 is expected to produce political fireworks as top politicians from the county square it out for the county’s top seat.
Interestingly, almost all those eyeing for the seat have expressed interest in vying for it on an ODM ticket.
Even as the political landscape of 2017 starts to shape up in Kisumu, it is Raila Odinga who is going to make the hard choice as he enjoys a warm relationship with all those who have declared interest for the seat.
Kisumu Senator and former ODM Secretary General Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o is one of Raila’s right hand men and the two have enjoyed a good relationship for long.
Nyong'o has publicly declared that he will challenge the incumbent Governor Jack Ranguma.
Ruth Odinga, who is Raila’s sister and the Deputy Governor of Kisumu has also declared interest for the seat and is going to square it out with his boss, Mr Ranguma.
Then there is Mr Ranguma himself who enjoys a warm relationship with the former Premier.
This particular scenario must be giving the ODM party leadership sleepless nights on who to support.
