Siaya County Assembly has passed a motion to reject Uhuru Kenyatta as president-elect and pave the way for the formation of a People’s Assembly in line with NASA's resistance campaign.
The house adopted the motion following a proposal by NASA leader Raila Odinga that Opposition strongholds reject Uhuru’s win in the fresh election held Thursday, October 26.
He also suggested that the counties form a People’s Assembly where they will agitate for their rights and pave way for another round of the election.
The motion in Raila’s home county was tabled by the Chief Whip and Central Sakwa MCA Johannes Andiego on Wednesday, November 8.
This was supported by all MCAs who accused Jubilee of being a “repressive regime”.
NASA counties of Homabay, Migori, Siaya, and Kisumu declined to participate in the repeat election after Raila withdrew from the race and called for the boycott
However, the presidential vote went on in the rest of the country with Uhuru being declared winner.
The Opposition on Tuesday, November 8 said the People’s Assembly will constitute of Governors and Deputy Governors, members of the Senate, National Assembly and County Assembly, religious, trade union and civil society leaders, and representatives of youth and women organizations.
The People’s Assembly will hold a convention in Nairobi and make decisions and recommendations to achieve “democracy, constitutionalism and to restore legality”, added the Opposition
