He is a master political operator, probably one the greatest politicians the country has ever produced. And those who cross his path seldom survive politically. That's Raila Odinga, the shrewd politician shaking the country's political scene.
Many Nyanza politicians have found themselves on the receiving end even after enjoying a good relationship with the former Prime Minister.
Perhaps the biggest victim of Raila's " betrayal" is former Ndhiwa MP Orwa Ojode. Despite being one of the most senior politicians in Nyanza, Raila overlooked him in the appointment to the cabinet in the grand coalition government .A fallout between them but Luo elders intervened.
Then there is Caroli Omondi, a wealthy businessman from Homa Bay who is said to have financed Raila's 2007 campaigns. He served as his Chief of Staff in the grand coalition government. In 2017, when he tried his luck in elective politics, he lost to Suba South MP John Mbadi in the ODM nominations which many claimed was not fair. Raila backed Mbadi, the ODM chair thereafter.
Former Rangwe MP Shem Ochuodho is another politician who has repeatedly accused Raila of his political downfall. It's often alleged that Ochuodho who was Raila's key ally during their time in NDP, was rigged by "Raila's men" both in NARC and ODM.
Ochillo Ayacko, former Rongo MP has walked long political journey with Raila. But in 2017 in the Migori gubernatorial race, Raila openly backed Governor Okoth Obado, an ODM candidate, and left Ayacko who was vying as an independent.
