NASA presidential candidate is expected to move fast to quell a storm among the Luo Council of Elders over the Mombasa governorship race. 

This is after the Council of Elders differed on whom to back between Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti.

The conflict of arises from the fact that Awiti hails from the community while Joho has been a stronger support of the former  prime minister Raila Amolo Odinga, who is seeking to rise to power for his fourth time.

On Saturday, the two sides differed bitterly over the two leaders with less than one month to the polls.

A group led by Luo Council of Elders chairman, James Obara, affirmed that they will rally the electorate behind Joho, also Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

The other side, under the leadership of founding council members Joseph Obuya and Jack Obado, said Awiti is the right man to lead the county for the next five years, adding that they were ready to rally the electorate behind him.

“We are fully behind Joho. Those opposed to our endorsement will be swept by the wind,” Obara said. 

The seat has also attracted Senator Omar Hassan (Wiper) and Suleiman Shahbal (Jubilee).
