Nasa presidential contender Raila Odinga could lose his influence in the Western region if he does not move with speed to neutralize Jubilee's 'cunning moves' in the region, a political analyst has revealed.
Speaking to KTN News on Sunday, governance and political risk analyst Dismas Mokua said that Mr Odinga's fortunes could dwindle in his perceived stronghold following the election of former Bungoma governor Ken Lusaka as Senate speaker.
Mokua averred that the elevation of Lusaka could tilt the voting pattern in favor of Jubilee and urged Odinga to move fast and neutralize his influence.
"The main challenge to Mr. Odinga in Western region is the Lusaka factor. His election as Senate speaker could easily translate into votes for the Jubilee government that fronted him for the seat.Much as he is not allowed to take political sides his new position nonetheless will send a key message to his constituents on where to vote", he said.
The Western region voters largely voted for Mr. Odinga although president Uhuru Kenyatta also managed to secure a sizable chunk of votes during the August 8 polls.
