According to senior NASA officials, the National People's Convention (NPC) was set for Wednesday this week, but no preparation has been done to make the controversial event happen.

After boycotting the Supreme Court-ordered presidential election on October 26 last year, Raila hoped to use the people's assemblies, whose creation has been stopped by the high court, to make IEBC conduct another election by August 2018.

Officials in NASA now admit they do not know if the convention will happen in future, and what will befall the few people's assemblies formed in some opposition-controlled counties.

Wiper Party secretary general Peter Mathuki says the event is not likely to happen because the earlier protocol agreed on has already been violated by ODM.

"The initial plan was for the process to be undertaken in stages. We were to first have the people’s assemblies, then hold the convention where issues of reforms were to be deliberated upon before the swearing in of the people’s president,” he said, as quoted by Nation.co.ke, adding “now that the swearing in has happened there may be no need for the convention.”

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, now the deputy leader of Ford Kenya, says the people's convention will not happen.

“The dynamics of the swearing in of Mr Odinga brought confusion in the organs of Nasa. So far there has been no decision on the convention. It will not be held," he said, according to Nation.co.ke.
