Despite losing three presidential elections in a row, Opposition leader Raila Odinga is 'secretly' planning to vie again in 2022.

According to a youth leader, Linford Mutembei, Raila is determined to disregard the pre-election agreement with his co-principals in NASA of not running for the top seat in the next election.

Ahead of August 8, 2017, General Election, the former Prime Minister agreed with his colleagues in the opposition; Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Moses Wetang'ula (Ford-Kenya) that he would support any of them in 2022.

But Mutembei, the chairman of Mount Kenya Youth Caucus, argued that the sustained narrative that Raila will be sworn in as the 'people's president', is meant to ensure he remains the most influential politician in the opposition ahead of the next election.

"Raila wants to make sure that within the NASA, he remains the most popular person so that in 2022, he will prevail upon Kalonzo and Mudavadi to support him," he said, as quoted by the Nation on Monday.

Speaking in Kiambu Town, Mutembei said for the next four years of President Uhuru Kenyatta's regime, the former Premier will kick all the fuss he can to remain relevant on the national stage and within opposition ranks.

"To achieve this, he is cleverly coming up with activities that will see him directly and fiercely engage with Jubilee so that his backers see him as the alliance's pillar. He is finding ways to dishonour his pledge that he will hand over the alliance leadership just like he did to Kalonzo in 2017," the lobby boss added.

Kalonzo and Mudavadi have declared interests to run for the presidency when Uhuru retires.
