Former Law Society of Kenya chairman Okong’o Omogeni has urged the Abagusii community to remain in the ODM and not be lured to join the ruling Jubilee coalition.
According to Omogeni, the Gusii community will be in the next government that will be formed by opposition leader Raila Odinga.
“I hear people dismissing Odinga’s presidential bid and I want to assure you that he will form the next government due to his persistent record of fighting against impunity in our country and as the Omougusii, we must be part of him,” said Omogeni.
The former LSK boss who spoke on Saturday alleged that the Jubilee administration had lost direction on streamlining the country's economy.
“The economy has been ailing and the Jubilee party is becoming unpopular due to the rampant corruption. I am sure they may not even perform in their perceived strongholds,” he added.
He further took a swipe at Cord co-principals Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka claiming they have not popularised themselves among the electorate to be given a chance to be the coalition flagbearers.
“I am sure Odinga will trounce Jubilee if as the opposition we will stand with him. I doubt the other principals enjoy support from other parts of the country other than their backyards,” he said.
Jubilee government has been making inroads in the region with a number of leaders among them MCAs visiting State House to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta.
