Speaking after a party retreat at Maanzoni hotel in Machakos County on Sunday, the leaders said the clamor for a constitutional amendment would rescue the country from the political turmoil and tribulations that recur after every five years.

Led by MPs Kullow Hassan (Barisa), Aden Haji (Mandera West), Omar Hassan (Mandera East), and some 27 MCAs, the leaders said the winner takes it all type of democracy in the country is wrong.

“This Country turns into anarchy after every five years of elections, it becomes a battleground and a lot of lives are lost, the only way to correct this country should go for a constitutional amendment. The only book that cannot be subjected to change is the Holy Koran and Holy Bible,” said Kullow Hassan.

His sentiments were echoed by Simba Hasheen saying that there is rampant devolved corruption, and to rein in the corrupt Governors, there must be a three tire system to acquire meaningful results.

In other matters political, the leaders said they backed the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

“The Economic Freedom Party supports the handshake between Uhuru and Raila because the party has been on the forefront of advocating for negotiated democracy,” said Yusuf, the Mandera West MP.

The leaders called on the Government to immediately turn its focus to addressing the runaway insecurity in Madera County.
