NASA leader Raila Odinga has rubbished claims that he was eager and begging for a meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Speaking outside the IEBC offices after a 40-minute meeting with IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati, Odinga said his stand that he will not participate in next week’s polls remain.

“You know what the Jubilee people said yesterday. Under those circumstances, is it still proper to meet with Kenyatta? It is made to look as if I am begging . . .,” Mr Odinga said.

He further noted that the current political situation was poisoned, and was almost impossible to meet the President and his deputy.

“I do not know how many times I need to tell them (that I do not want a nusu mkate (coalition government). I do not want to appear as if I am going to beg. I do not need anything from the so-called William Ruto,” he said.

His meeting with Chebukati comes a day after Roselyn Akombe resigned as commissioner of the IEBC, citing political interferences in her work.

Chebukati subsequently issued a statement, saying he could not promise a free and fair election next week, urging President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to sit and find a solution.
