The county government of Nairobi under the leadership of governor Mike Sonko announced the closure through a public notice published on local dailies on January 23, 2018.According to the county government, the recreation ground is scheduled to undergo phased improvement works in order to enhance recreational usefulness to its visitors.Taking to his Facebook page on Wednesday, Junior questioned the timing of the closure."The timing , interesting !" he posted. Through his twitter account, Raila's son further told Kenyans that should they want anything of theirs to be renovated, then they should announce it is a swearing in venue for them to be sorted out. "If you want anything of yours renovated just say it is a swearing venue, they'll sort you like Uhuru park," tweeted Raila Junior. NASA had picked the historical grounds as its venue of swearing in Odinga as people's president on January 30, 2018.
