NASA Presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga push for six piece voting in Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has continued to attract mixed reactions from leaders aligned to the alliance.
The opposition leader has differed with a number of leadership contesting on Wiper, Ford Kenya and Amani National Congress (ANC).
Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan is among the leaders who are not impressed with Raila’s call for this system of voting.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Nation, Omar said that he does not support the idea of six piece voting as we head to the next general elections.
“The call for voting six-piece ODM candidates in Mombasa is not justified. It is wrong for leaders to herd people into party slogans to get sympathy,” he said.
The senator, who is contesting for the Mombasa governorship seat, said that the call for this system is likely to cost the alliance dearly in the August polls.
“It is a scheme to get voters’ sympathy, otherwise they will not win a single seat in Mombasa. It’s not business as usual. It’s not 2013,” said the senator.
The lawmaker also said that there are many things that have changed in the political arena.
“Making such a call shows that the ODM leaders think that the area is still 100 per cent ODM like it was in 2013. But politics is dynamic,” he noted.
