Former Lagdera MP Farah Maalim has maintained that NASA’s  plan to swear in Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka as the people’s president and deputy respectively on Tuesday is ‘meaningless’.

Speaking during a panel interview on NTV’s AM LIVE on Monday, the Wiper deputy leader said that the Tuesday swearing-in event is not backed by the law.

He noted that NASA will not achieve the electoral reforms agenda by swearing in Raila and Kalonzo.

“I still maintain that the move and push to swear in Raila and Kalonzo is not prescribed in the constitution and the two leaders are creating more trouble for themselves,” he said during the interview.

Maalim, who unsuccessfully contested for the Garissa Township Parliamentary seat in last years polls,  said that it would have been better for Raila and Kalonzo to take another approach rather than taking an illegal oath.

“I advise Raila and Kalonzo to abandon the swearing in and take a softer approach that will guarantee justice for victims of police brutality and put an end to election theft,” he said.

The Wiper Party deputy leader said that Uhuru’s government will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute Raila and Kalonzo if they go on to take oath on Tuesday.

Maalim also said that Raila and Kalonzo risk international sanctions for taking part in an illegal activity.

He said that the former Prime Minister and Vice President have reputations to protect, adding that taking an illegal oath spells doom for them.

NASA plans to swear in Raila and Kalonzo on Tuesday at Uhuru Park even as pressure mounts on them to drop the plan and embrace dialogue.

The government has termed Raila’s planned coronation illegal and highly treasonous.

On Sunday,   police warned that no event will be taking place at Uhuru Park on Tuesday.

The police have vowed to deal firmly with anyone who will defy orders barring access to Uhuru Park that was indefinitely closed by the Nairobi county government last week.
