COTU Secretary General, Francis Atwoli, has also joined the debate asking the Jubilee government to stop dismissing the opposition over the mega water project.

Atwoli said CORD co-principal is not interested in Murang'a county politics and his concerns on the Sh6.8B project he referred to as 'Tunnels of Death' should not be dismissed as mere politics.

“Murang’a leaders must pay keen attention to what Raila is saying. Raila talked about NYS fund loss and it became true hence on this water issue he should be given attention rather than mere dismissals,” Atwoli said.

Speaking during a funds drive in Homa Bay county, Atwoli said Raila remarks should not be taken lightly and called for serious investigations into the project.

“Let Jubilee administration stop the tendency of rushing to dismiss what Raila says over this multi-billion water project. It is prudent for them to conduct investigations first,” Atwoli said.

The project has recently become the epicentre of Jubilee-CORD politics after the CORD leader Raila Odinga came out to questions its implementation secrecy and environmental impact. Odinga claimed that the project would lead to desertification of Murang’a County, Ukambani region and Tana River delta.

Murang’a county leadership is heavily divided over the project with Governor Mwangi wa Iria accusing Raila of sabotaging the project.
