Thirty-two schools have been affected by the ongoing heavy rains in Uasin Gishu County.
The county's director of Education Nichodemus Anyang said the damaged schools are located in six sub-counties namely; Ainabkoi, Moiben, Turbo, Turbo, Soy, and Kesses.
“I want to confirm that due to the ongoing rains, 32 schools have been affected in the county but have not been severely damaged. We cannot reveal them though due to security reasons. Both primary and secondary schools have been affected,” Anyang said.
Anyang addressed the press in Eldoret town on Thursday.
“Some of the damages that have been reported include compounds being overflooded, septic tanks and toilets being over flooded, power supply disruption and damaged library among others,” Anyang added.
He said none of the schools had been closed despite the challenges.
Anyang called for quick intervention by the National Government through its Education Ministry to restore the situation in all the affected schools before the situations worsen.
He urged wellwishers from all sectors whether private, public, corporate or individuals to come to the schools'aid by supporting where they can.
Anyang particularly called upon the Uasin Gishu County Government, led by Governor Jackson Mandago to help those schools whose toilets and septic tanks have overflooded.
He, however, called upon headteachers and principals to be careful and report any cases of flooding due to the ongoing rains in their schools.
Anyang promised to help such public institutions.
