The vendors had closed shop for lack of the commodity due to the prolonged dry spell reported in the area.

Lydia Kemunto, a vegetable vendor in the Kisii Municipal Market regrets that the dry season affected her business as she lost almost all her clients who patronised her stall for traditional vegetables.

Speaking to this writer at her stall, Kemunto who specialises in black night shade (Managu) and spider flower (Saget) has slowly resumed business, though she lamented that the commodity is still scarce from her suppliers in Nyangusu Market along the Gucha/Transmara common border.

"With the rain season, we are optimistic that our vegetable business will pick after a long slumber due to prolonged dry spell witnessed in the region," stated Kemunto.

Kemunto challenged all horticultural farmers in the region to consider embracing greenhouse farming technologies to enhance continued supply of green vegetables throughout the year to avert the scarcity of greens reported in the region in the past three months of the dry spell.

She also called on local farmers to consider producing large quantities of vegetables, have the commodity dried and preserved for future sale to the traders during shortage caused by droughts.
