The ongoing heavy rains coupled with poor drainage have rendered most roads in Nyamira County impassable.
Nyamira based opinion leader Francis Onyambu has called on the national and county government to move with speed to help stabilise the situation, which has given many locals hard times.
Onyambu said the roads are giving motorists from Nyamira, Kebririgo and Manga serious problems, struggling to carry out their normal business as a result of the roads being impassible.
“Many land developers have erected their buildings on road reserves and others on the riparian zones and the authorities have not bothered to question them why they were doing so,” he said.
In an interview in Magombo on Monday, Onyambu said the residents have vowed to put to task the relevant authorities to come on board and repair the roads as soon as possible.
He expressed fears that many of the county residents would be cut off from normal transport activities if the rains continue.
“Transport in Nyamira County is becoming a nightmare and source of stress as residents spend more hours on the road than at work or home," he said.
