A primary school teacher from Samburu Central is being held at Maralal police station for defiling and impregnating a class six pupil.
According to the police, the accused lured the girl aged,12, into the staff room where he defiled her.
Samburu Central OCPD Abagaro Guyo said the suspect was arrested after the family of the minor reported the matter to the police.
Guyo said investigations are underway and the teacher will be arraigned in court on Monday.
"We are waiting for results from the hospital where the girl was taken for tests. The suspect will be taken to court on Monday," Guyo said.
Residents asked the Ministry of Education to take disciplinary actions against such teachers saying defilement and pregnancies in primary schools are on the rise in the region.
