A ranger at the vast Rukinga Ranch has been found dead after being trampled on by an elephant.

Ambrise Nyange had been reported missing after casting his vote in the October 26 repeat presidential election.

According to police reports, the decomposing body of Ambroce Nyange was on Saturday afternoon discovered in a thicket.

He was reported to have left his work station on October 26 to go cast his vote at the Miasenyi polling station, Voi sub-county, but never reported back to work.

Confirming the incident, County Police Commander Fred Ochieng said the 47-year-old is suspected to have been fatally attacked by a rogue elephant while on his way back to the ranch using a short cut.

“We mounted a search for him and later discovered his body parts scattered in the bush,” he said.

The remains were collected and taken to St Joseph’s Shelter of Hope Hospital mortuary in Voi awaiting a post-mortem examination.
