[Photo| Courtesy]Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has been dealt a blow after the High Court dismissed his election petition against his successor, Governor Prof Anyang' Nyong'o.Ranguma had filed a petition at the court seeking for the nullification of the gubernatorial election but Justice David Majanja dismissed the case with costs for lack of sufficient evidence.Ranguma had argued that the election was not conducted in accordance with the law and was marred by electoral irregularities and malpractice.He had narrated to the court how the third respondent - Nyong’o, carried out a propaganda campaign to malign his name before and during the election to ensure he lost.“My Lord I was branded anti-ODM party,” he saidHe said Nyong’o colluded with the first respondent - (IEBC) Presiding Officers to block his agents from accessing some polling stations giving an example of Kobura primary in Nyando.He also alleged cases of voter bribery and collusion between agents of ODM and IEBC officials.Ranguma accused some IEBC officials of taking a proactive step to ensure that Nyong’o won in the election which included influencing those who were in the queue to vote Nyong’o.He further alleged that voters were allowed to cast more than one ballot in some stations.However according to Majanja, the allegations were not proved in court.During the Wednesday ruling, Majanja directed that Ranguma should deposit to court Sh5 million. Sh2.5 million for the first respondent and Sh2.5 for the third respondent as they had requested.
