Kisumu County residents have petitioned the Governor Jack Ranguma to manage the town’s poor drainage.
The residents demanded that the county government repairs the blocked drainage systems within the town’s estates.
The town currently faces a poor drainage system following the burst sewer lines in the Migosi, Manyatta, Nyalenda and Obunga estates.
Kisumu City Residence Voice Association Chairman Audi Ogada told our reporter on Thursday that residents risk getting cholera, Typhoid and other infections brought about by poor hygiene.
Audi asked Ranguma to allocate funds towards repairing of burst sewer lines and handling of the town’s drainage system.
“We cannot be facing problems related to poor drainage yet we have a county government in place. We have burst sewer lines with filthy sewerage running freely in our estates. This is really dangerous to our children especially those who are under five years old,” said Audi.
His Manyatta Bunge counterpart Benson Onoka also said that Manyatta area suffers one of the poorest drainage systems in the lakeside city.
Onoka added that residents from the area have been complaining for a very long time about the poor drainage systems and burst sewer lines but no action had been taken.
He challenged Ranguma to address the problem.
