Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma has challenged the electorate to elect God fearing leaders.

The governor was speaking on Thursday during a function at a King's Outreach Church in Ahero town, Nyando sub-county.

Mr Ranguma quoted the Bible in Proverbs 28:28 saying: "When the wicked rise to power, the people go into hiding; but when the wicked perish, the righteous thrive, when the Godly are in power, the people rejoices."

Ranguma, who is up for a second term in 2017, asked the faithful to consider electing him again for the county leadership.

He said he, unlike many other leaders, have been close to the church because he believes the 'the church is the light of the world.'

"The church has the power to put in place the right leadership by electing leaders with moral Christian virtues," said Ranguma.

The governor made several references to the Old Testament.

He said God's people were led by kings who got instructions from Priests and Prophets of God.

He urged the faithful to elect leaders who are close and always consults with the Church.
