Kisumu County residents have been told to be watchdogs on how county government projects are being implemented.

Governor Jack Ranguma said there are many projects being undertaken by the county government. He added that his government will carry out evaluations but the public should also monitor the ongoing projects.

“My officers may be overwhelmed evaluating the ongoing works. That is why I want the public to monitor any project funded by the county government within their areas,” he said.

He said the public should monitor and report to his office in cases where the projects are being done in haphazard way.

Speaking at Got Nyabondo Primary School on Thursday when ground-breaking for the construction of the school, Ranguma said the public has a voice in how the projects are being done.

He urged parents to prevent their children from engaging in early commercial activities adding that they should be made to attend school and not left loitering in the streets.

“Parents should not allow their children to engage in commercial activities. Let them learn and look for money once they are out of school,” he said.

Ranguma said education is hinged in the new constitution and should not be denied children.
