Governor Jack Ranguma has called for unity among church and political leaders ahead of the 2017 general election.

Mr Ranguma who joined the Legio Maria believers at Kona Lejo, Kondele to mark this year's Palm Sunday said it was important for the leaders to co-exist so as to ensure a peaceful elections.

With less than 15 months to the general election, campaigns have already commenced with people declaring interests in various seats.

Ranguma said the church has a big role to play so as to ensure the campaigns and elections are peaceful.

"The voters are the various church members. As the men of God, you have to help us educate the congregation on the importance of elections, and peaceful elections on that matter," said Ranguma.

The governor reiterated his support for the church and said he was ready to consult with men of God so as to ensure his service delivery to the people of Kisumu is that which pleases God.

"My government is created on a foundation of God and that is why I have maintained close relationship with the church. I urge believers and leaders to take politics positively, embrace it and pray for it so that we get God fearing leaders," said Ranguma who has since declared interest to retain his position in 2017.

The Pulm Sunday was marked in various churches across the world.
