Governor Jack Ranguma's bid to retain the Kisumu governor post has suffered a major blow after Luo elders endorsed ODM's nominee Anyang Nyong'o.

The elders from Ranguma's own Kano clan said they were going to work with Nyong'o and this will mean that Rangum goes into the polls without a solid backing from his home turf.

The Saturday endorsement was made by over 20 members of the Luo Council of Elders hailing from Nyando sub-county.

"We appreciate the role Ranguma has played but we ask him to retire peacefully."

"There are several jobs in the government and we hope in Raila Odinga’s government he will be able to serve as an ambassador or a PS (principal secretary)," Mr Randa said.

"As for us, we will rally our community behind Prof Nyong’o come rain come sun shine because we believe, with his wealth of knowledge, he will be able to improve the status of our county," he added.
