The Kisumu county government has waived hospital bills for Cord supporters injured during the anti-IEBC demonstration in Kisumu on Monday.
"I have waived the hospital bills for my fellow Cord supporters who were injured by the police in Kisumu on Monday during the anti-IEBC protests," Governor Jack Ranguma said.
Mr Ranguma visited those recuperating at various health facilities within the county.
Speaking at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital on Tuesday, he urged those who fled the hospitals for fear of being arrested by police to go back for treatment.
“Am asking those who fled the hospitals either due to failure to raise bills or for fear of being persuaded by police to go back to the hospitals for treatment,” he said adding that they should not be afraid because the county is with them.
The governor also condemned police brutality against Cord supporters which has led to serious injuries.
He said the Constitution gives Kenyans the right to picket and the police should therefore take responsibility for the injuries and damage to property occasioned by their ruthlessness against peaceful demonstrators.
