Ranguma said the County Assembly had passed a law giving him powers to support education matters that is partly devolved to only Early Childhood Education.

He said part of education that has remained with the national government is in serious need forcing him to step in.

“I am the governor and I will not just sit back and watch how our children are being wasted because the national government has declined to address their issues,” he said.

The governor who spoke in Kisumu on Tuesday after addressing 230 students under the sponsorship of the county government in secondary schools said he will continue to allocate funds towards the education of needy students.

The County Director of Education Silvance Mulambe lauded the initiative.

Mulambe said most sponsors of Orphans and Vulnerable Children never follow up on where they have put the money.

The county government has pledged to pay Sh22 million annually for the full secondary school fees for the 230 students who are currently in form one in various schools across the country.
