Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has defended health under devolution, noting that more gains have been made in the sector. Ranguma condemned a section of MPs and senators who are agitating to have the health sector reverted to the national government. He said counties have managed to run the health docket better than the national government and wondered why the change of tune from the legislators. The governor said the excuse being fronted is that counties have failed to pay doctors and other health personnel in time. “Counties have done a lot and let MPs appreciate not coming up with excuses that do not hold water at all,” he said. Speaking in Kisumu during the launch of integrated health service program funded by European Union, Ranguma said the argument does not hold any water since they have been prompt in payment. He said the gains made in the devolution in terms of health matters should not be reversed and wondered on whose interest the legislators are acting upon. “Kenyans are behind us wanting health to remain, I wonder who these MPs represent,” he said. Ranguma reported that Kenyans are very happy with health being devolved and would not want it to be taken back to the national government.
