Kisumu governor Jack Ranguma has dismissed reports that Kenyatta Sports Ground is set to be leased to a private developer and threatened to take to court those linking him to the reports.
Ranguma said the ground is under the sports docket it's his administration that has lined up measures to bring it back to its lost glory.
“I am told, the sports ministry talked to the stakeholders, they have agreed on what is to be done, now I wonder how my name comes in that I am planning to sell the ground to somebody,” he said.
Addressing the press in Kisumu on Friday, the governor said his government plans to renovate the ground and set up a committee to manage it.
He said the ground had been run haphazardly by the current team, noting that funds being generated from the facility had not been accounted for.
Ranguma said the idea is to reorganise the management of the ground and make it profitable.
Some leaders, led by former Kisumu Mayor Prisca Misachi, had petitioned Ranguma to come clean on the alleged lease of the ground.
