Kisumu county governor Jack Ranguma’s bid to vie as an independent candidate could be in jeopardy as his former party, ODM, insists he did not formally resign officially.
ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen in a letter to Odinga Oboge Advocates, said that Ranguma and Kisumu West hopeful Ken Obiero are still ODM members.
"One cannot run as an independent while still registered as a member of another political party," read the letter as quoted by Nation.
Ranguma who lost during the ODM primaries to Anyang' Nyong'o, announced his exit from ODM party and later assured Kisumu county residents that he will defend his governor seat as an independent candidate.
However, Ranguma vowed to support ODM party leader Raila Odinga who is running for presidency.
