Governor Jack Ranguma has instructed the county education leadership to investigate allegedly fraud by primary school head teachers on the free primary education funds.
The governor said an assessment by Cabinet Secretary for Education Fred Matiangi in the county revealed that pupils were getting a raw deal from the teachers.
He said even though the national government had allocated each pupil a text book in specific subjects, some children were found sharing the text books and the teachers could not explain the reasons why.
“I was surprised when I accompanied Dr Matiangi as he visited a few primary schools within the county. We found up to three pupils sharing one book and when the CS inquired the head teachers could not give and explanation. We have to know where the books end up,” said the furious Ranguma.
The Governor spoke during the issuing of cheques to beneficiaries of the county’s 2016 scholarship.
Dr Matiangi who was in the county on Tuesday visited primary schools in the county where he called upon County Directors of Education to step up their supervisory roles to ensure high standards of service delivery by teachers.
The CS also noted poor management which saw some schools lack proper toilets and teaching material.
Governor Ranguma however said such mismanagement of schools’ resources were affecting the quality of education and will not be accepted as the county government has been investing in education.
“We should be working on ways to improve the quality of education right from the ECD level and that is why the county government has allocated millions for instruction materials and school infrastructure. We have to guard these gains so as to realise the fruits of education,” he added.
