Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has refuted claims that his government approved the Sh15 million MCA's trip to Tanzania.
Reports indicate that the 49 MCAs will pocket an allowance amounting to Sh260,000 each after the trip.
Ranguma said the County Assembly is independent from the executive and can make its decisions.
"Its decisions are made by the County Assembly Service Board," he said, as quoted by the Star.
The county boss also expressed disappointment at the decision by the MCAs to go on a 'bonding trip' when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commision (IEBC) has raised concern over the low voter registration turn-out in different parts of the nation.
Residents of Kisumu have also been outraged by the trip.
ODM leaders have faulted the MCAs for betraying them as they look forward to unseating President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy Vice President William Ruto.
Cord leader Raila Odinga has been asking opposition leaders to ensure residents register as voters to make their dream a reality.
"We should ensure our people register in large numbers if we are to win the presidency by a wide margin," he said.
