Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has discredited a survey report released by World Bank that rated his development at 1%. Ranguma said the report is not up to date, adding that he has since done a lot in terms of development since he was elected the governor. He said his development track record is much more than the percentage that is being reported. The county boss said development done by friendly donors in the county has gone unreported since the amount from the national government is merger. Ranguma announced that the county receives annually Sh4.8 billion of which Sh3.5 billion takes care of salaries for the county workers. He explained that operation and maintenance costs takes another Sh1 billion, which leaves him with merger resources to carry out tangible development. “Funds from the national government are too little to pay workers and carry out other duties besides development. It is not enough and will not be enough," he said. Speaking in Kisumu, the governor said correct figures should be used to come out with a correct percentage to the people, adding that he has so far used over Sh1.2 billion in development that cannot be equivalent to 1 percent. He said giving out a wrong picture in regard to his development record might pit him against the people of Kisumu. Ranguma said what the county receives from the national government is not enough to carry out tangible development thus the need to source for donor funding.
