Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has filed a notice of appeal at the Kisumu Court of appeal, a week after Kisumu High Court Judge David Majanja upheld Kisumu Governor Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’os win in the August 8th general election.
Ranguma through his lawyer Richard Onsongo has shown dissatisfaction with Justice Majanja’s ruling delivered on the 3rd of this month.
Onsongo said they will now serve the advocates of Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, and those of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) with the appeal’s notice.
“A team of Ranguma’s advocates will soon craft the grounds of the appeal they intend to argue at the court of appeal,” he said.
Justice Majanja upheld Governor Nyong’os victory saying the petition filed by Ranguma lacked evidence.
“The allegations made by the petitioner are vague and embarrassing. Such vagueness is not cured by stating in the petition that the grounds, information and evidence are detailed in the supporting affidavits,” read part of the judgment.
Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o was elected Kisumu County’s second governor on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket, while Ranguma vied as an Independent candidate on August 8th 2017.
The former governor had lost to Nyong’o in the ODM hotly contested party primaries.
