Kisumu County Governor Jack Ranguma has made his maiden speech at the Kisumu County assembly with a promise that the county is on the right development track despite some challenges.

In a speech that took over 50 minutes, the governor emphasised on the need of commercialisation of agriculture and boosting agricultural activities in the county which is the backbone of most locals.

Ranguma said he was impressed by the uptake of sorghum farming introduced by the county in the seven sub counties adding that they will roll out more seeds for crops like rice, bananas and cotton to cushion farmers from poverty.

On industrialisation and investment, Ranguma noted that in his two years at the helm, several big investors have set foot in the county thereby creating over 10,000 county residents.

He mentioned Naivas Supermarket, Tumaini Supermarket, Ukwala Supermarket, Uchumi Supermarket, Bata Shoes, Tile and Carpet, Java, Woolworth as some of the investments that have come in the county.

On tourism, the Governor said they have gazetted tourist and cultural sites and attractions in the county like Kit Mikayi, Luanda Magere, Thim Lich Ohinga, Ndere Island Park and Kisumu Museum among others which will help attract local and international toutists and increase revenue.

Ranguma said he will also be launching free Wi-Fi services at the end of February which will cover the CBD, institutions of higher learning, libraries and health facilities which will help them access information, study, innovate and create employment.

On education and Health, Ranguma said his government has equipped and improved standards of hospitals and even dispensaries in the county to provide quality healthcare. On education, he said over Sh 75M worth of bursary has been disbursed to different schools adding that the county is in the process of putting up also more ECD learning centres and equipping existing ones.
