Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma has announced that he will defend his seat as an independent candidate.
Ranguma, however, said he will continue supporting Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga.
The governor said on Thursday during a press address that his name will be on the ballot in the poll that will see him face off with Senator Anyang' Nyong'o.
Nyong’o was declared winner of the disputed Kisumu Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations.
"I have worked close enough with Kisumu residents for them to know my name. There will be no guess work."
Ranguma said he made the decision after consulting his supporters.
"I have, in the last several days, listened to my supporters to understand their views on the matter. I will give the people the leadership they desire," he said.
The governor added that he will unveil his running mate in due course and that his supporters will help him with campaigns.
