The contractors, some of whom have been camping at the county headquarters over delayed payment had threatened to stage a demonstration to compel the county government to release their cash.

"I met our contractors this afternoon and assured them of my support to ensure all pending payments for completed and progressing projects and services are made," Ranguma said after the meeting.

"However, to ensure value for money, I have constituted a special verification committee comprising engineers, specialists and the Service Delivery Unit to authenticate the true status of the projects. Upon completion, the payments will be made immediately IFMIS resumes."

"We, however, regret the delay in payments occasioned by hitches in IFMIS which the county government has no control over. I appealed to the contractors to ensure quality work since my administration will not pay for work not given a clean bill of health."

The contractors have been at loggerheads with the Ranguma-led administration accusing it of delaying payment even after completing projects assigned to them.
