Kisumu county is planning to invite mineral experts to prospect the possibility of the existence of minerals in the county.
According to the county Mining Chief Executive Lilian Atieno, there is need to explore the possibility of the existence of minerals in the county.
She said several investors have showed interest in undertaking mining activities only that the whole issue faced regulatory hurdles.
Ms Atieno said the county government is fully committed to develop the mining sector which is under-exploited.
She said the county government would increase budgetary allocation to the sector.
"As a county, we are committed to explore minerals in the area which have not been explored for long due to lack of investors and due to poor legislation which is hindering the growth if the sector from its current status," she said.
"However, we have decided that we are going to undertake this daunting task owing to its cost which is well beyond our reach as a county, but we are going to work with other investors."
