Kisumu County governor Jack Ranguma has come out to assure the public that the Sh60 billion Lake Front Development and Urban Renewal (LFDUR) project is authentic.
This comes after a section of MCAs claimed that the project is non-existent after the French government pulled out as the main sponsor.
In a statement from Ranguma's office released on Thursday, Ranguma has said that the commencement of flagship projects is a proof enough that the project is on course to be delivered.
"We have made big steps in realising that the project is implemented, the commencement of construction of a modern Sh14billion port is just a proof that the project is still ongoing as planned," said Ranguma.
Ranguma said that the current expansion of the Kisumu International Airport was part of the project and there is no need for causing an alarm. The statement further added that, the county government has made steps in coming up with measures of attracting investments into the project.
"We have signed memorandum of understanding with foreign investors and the Kenya Maritime Authority to ensure that the project is realized," read the statement.
The authenticity of the project was brought into question by a number of MCAs after, Ranguma sacked city manager Doris Ombara and later appointed her to head the project.
