[Photo/Anyang' Nyong'o]Former Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma filed a petition at the Kisumu Law Court seeking for the nullification of Prof Anyang' Nyong'o's August 8 election.Ranguma who lost his seat to Nyong'o argued that the gubernatorial race was not conducted in accordance with the law but was marred by electoral irregularities and malpractice.On November 30, Nyong'o appeared in court as a witness to defend his win.He was accompanied by his Deputy Dr Ochieng' Owili, County Secretary Olang'o Onudi, Chief of Staff Patrick Ouya, among others.In his suit papers Ranguma through his lawyer Onsong'o claimed Nyong'o accused him of nepotism and misuse of public funds in political rallies.In response, Nyong'o admitted and mentioned institutions where he lodged such complaints.The institutions include the Senate and the Senate Budgetary and Accounts committee.His chief agent, Aloice Ager also made a presentation in court under the guidance his legal team led by Senior Counsel James Orengo and Antony Oluoch.IEBC and the Returning Officer John Lorionokou are represented by advocate Edwin MukeleRanguma had earlier took to the dock as the first witness where he told Judge David Majanja that he won but his election was stolen.He narrated to the court how the third respondent Nyong’o, carried out a propaganda campaign to malign his name before and during the election to ensure he lost.“My Lord I was branded anti-ODM party,” he saidHe said Nyong’o colluded with the first respondent (IEBC) Presiding Officers to block his agents from accessing some polling stations giving an example of Kobura primary in Nyando.He also alleged cases of voter bribery and collusion between agents of ODM and IEBC officials.Ranguma accused some IEBC officials of taking a proactive step to ensure that Nyong’o won in the election which included influencing those who were in the queue to vote Nyong’o.He further alleged that voters were allowed to cast more than one ballot in some stationsThe optimistic Ranguma is represented by lawyer Richard Onsongo.On December 29, the Court said it would issue a ruling about the petition on January 3, 2018.
