Ranguma said that after listening to the union members and union leaders, he felt that the rights of workers are well fought for.

"I feel the workers of Kenya deserve best. Everyday in my office I receive calls of workers complaining of less salaries than stated by the government," said Governor Ranguma.

He added: "It is important that we respect the workers’ rights. If a worker is supposed to get minimum wage of Sh11,000 let it be that or more but not less."

Speaking on Friday during the celebrations of Labour Day in Kisumu, Ranguma said that the problem of workers’ representation was rife in security firms.

"On the head of that person the security firm earns a minimum of Sh15,000, sometimes Sh20,000.

“How can you allow that somebody is charging the government Sh26,000 per head and pay them salary of sh3,500 per month?," he said

"In Kenya the profit margin should be not more than 20 to 30%. But why are you earning super profits on the heads of young men and women."

He said that leaders of the workers’ union should arrange to have a bimonthly meetings with him to deliberate on the issues affecting workers.

"As workers’ leaders, let's have a bimonthly meetings in the office so that we discuss worker’s issue and see the way forward," he said.
