Governor Jack Ranguma says he has written to the ministry of environment and national resources seeking support.

Ranguma said there is an urgent need to carry out an aerial survey in the most affected areas to identify where the problem lies before it could be fixed.

“I did an urgent letter to the cabinet secretary for environment and natural resources so that the national government can come to our aid,” he said.

He said his government managed to de-silt some rivers and there were little effects of flash floods but most of the rivers were not done.

Addressing a press conference in Kisumu, the Governor said more measures should be put in the upstream to contain water flowing in low land areas.

He said more water pans should be constructed in the upstream as a mitigation measure to flash floods causing havoc in Kisumu County.

Ranguma said the budget for the construction of dams and pans remained with the national government.

He pointed out that storage water in the pans will help the county and the neighbouring Nandi County to carry out serious irrigation to spur economic growth in the region.
