It is now official. Former Kisumu Governor Jack Nyanungo Ranguma will appeal Kisumu High Court’s ruling that confirmed Professor Peter Anyang Nyong’o as the duly elected Kisumu County governor in the August 8th 2017 general elections.
Ranguma through his lawyer Richard Onsongo said he will be filling a notice of appeal at the Kisumu court of appeal on Thursday Jan 11, 2018, to challenge Justice David Majanja’s ruling that validated Nyong’os win.
Justice Majanja delivered the ruling on the 3rd of this month.
“We appealing the case on grounds that we did not agree with the decision of High Court Judge Majanja,” said lawyer Ricahrd Onsongo while addressing the press in Kisumu.
However, the lawyer said that he will not handle the case but will hand it over to another advocate, insisting that he might be carried away by emotions while arguing the case.
Justice Majanja dismissed Ranguma’s election petition for lack of evidence.
“The allegations made by the petitioner are vague and embarrassing. Such vagueness is not cured by stating in the petition that the grounds, information and evidence are detailed in the supporting affidavits,” read part of the judgment.
Shortly after the ruling, Ranguma hinted at taking the battle to the court of appeal when he said that all ‘doors and windows’ had not been closed.
