Kisumu residents have petitioned the county government to allocate more funds towards the renovation and expansion of hospitals and health centres.
The residents complained of dilapidated hospitals in the county and inadequate facilities and personnel in the hospitals and health centres.
Kisumu Business Coalition Chairman Israel Agina asked the county government to allocate funds towards the expansion and renovation of the public health facilities in the county.
“In as much as health is still a major function of the National government, the county government should look into ways through which our health facilities can be developed, improved and expanded,” said Agina.
“Health is a basic human necessity and as such, we should look into ways through which our county can be well endowed with better health facilities,” he added.
Kisumu Residents Voice Association Chairman Audi Ogada also said that the county needed to employ more health personnel and workers in the public hospitals, to aid the already central government employees.
“The governor’s office should employ more health personnel and workers in our public hospitals so that patients can be well attended to,” said Ogada.
“The purpose of devolution was to benefit the common mwananchi at the grass root level. This is the reason why the county government should ensure that we have better health facilities and more experienced health workers,” added Ogada.
The two were speaking on Friday during a consultative forum with Kisumu-based journalists at a Kisumu Hotel.
