Minority leader Edwin Anayo challenged the governor to create permanent employment to the youth arguing that contract jobs do not solve the problems affecting the high number of unemployed youth.

“Our youth and women should also benefit from devolution by getting employed by the county government. We have thousands of graduates from universities every year and it is the duty of the county government to provide employment or avenues of employment to these young Kenyans to avoid wasting their degrees,” said Anayo.

The Market/Milimani Ward representative also challenged Ranguma to devolve jobs to kisumu residents.

“It is almost two years down the line since Kenyans voted for our county chiefs, but it is so sad that we are still looking at the national government to settle the rising number of unemployed economically,” added Anayo.

Anayo’s sentiments were echoed by Minority Whip Caroline Owen, who told our reporter on that the county still has a high number of unemployed women and youth.

“Most women and youth are the major breadwinners to their extended families and that is why it is highly in order to empower them economically by employing them,” said Owen.
